How to Create a Bow Bun | Prom Hairstyles

Hey, everyone. I'm Mindy from Cute Girls Hairstyles. And today, Kam's helping me-- Hi, guys. And we're going to show you the CGH bow bun. Now, this is not a new concept. This is one that we've seen lots of Instagrammers do before, but we've been asked by lots of people to do a tutorial. So that's what we're going to do today. And based on how we're dressed, you can tell what the weather has been like here in Texas this spring. Pretty much-- That's what I would have said, for sure, too. It just rained, and rained, and rained. We're ready to build an ark for our house.

So let's get going on the hair. We've begun by putting her hair into a high pony tail. You can see that her hair is wet. She just got done showering. But this also makes this hairstyle fantastic for post-swimming. You're going to begin by just sectioning off a piece of hair off to the side. And you don't want it too big a section.

This is what your bow is going to be made out of later. So we're just going to kind of pull that, and really put an elastic around it to hold it out of the way. Then we're going to take the rest of the hair and slide a donut maker over the rest. And you get the donut maker in place-- I'm going to tip your head down for me. Just let the hair fall. And you want to position the hair so that it completely covers the donut maker. If you need a comb to just smooth those hairs out, that's great. Just make sure that it's pretty evenly spaced. Take another elastic and flip it over the donut, so that it hugs that bun. Can you tip your head back? So you can see that we have this nice pretty bun shape.

Head down. And then we're just going to take-- minus the piece that we already secured, so make sure you keep that out of the way. We're going to begin right in here. And we're just going to start twisting the hair and adding in as we go along. I'm going to give her a little spin. And just keep twisting and adding, and twisting and adding. When you get to the end of the twist, varying lengths of hair will land a little bit differently. Then we're just going to bobby pin. Are you dizzy yet? That was funny. Twist and add, twist and add. Round and round she goes. So we're just going to add the bobby pins to hold those ends in place. And we have our twist done. Now we're going to go back over to this side right here. And we're going to start our bow. Her hair is striking drying out just a little bit, so I'm going to wet it down a little. And you're going to take a small elastic, this time one of the small stretchies, and go ahead and put it around that hair right at the top.

And you're going to wrap it around the hair until the elastic is pretty tight. So that's pretty tight right now, so I'm going to start making my loops. So I'm going to go, and I'm going to pull the hair part of the way through to create my first loop. Here we go. Then I'm going to give the elastic a twist, so you're going to twist it all the way once. And then I'm going to comb these ends out. We want our loop to be nice and pretty. Smooth we're looking. And you can see that I still am hanging onto that elastic right there. And I'm going to pull the hair through one more time, creating our second loop for the bow. And then you can kind of tweak it.

Pull the hair out more or less until you like the size of the bow. And we'll shape it a little bit more, too, with some bobby pins. So we're going to take our bobby pin, go up from the bottom, secure the bobby right here in the hair, and then go through the middle of the bow. This. And then you use that bobby pin to pull on that bow and really give it the shape and fluff you want. We're going to do another one on this side. So just go up from the bottom, through the bow hair, and then pull and shape until you like the way it looks. Now we have these little bit of ends. We're going to use these to cover the elastic right here. Just get a bobby pin ready. Take them up. And we're going to just tuck it right there and pin it, so that it gives our bow a nice little shape. You can tweak those again when you're done. Take the rest of the ends, if you have any. This, again, will depend on her length a little bit. And just pin them and hide them under our original twist.

And just mess with the bow until you like the shape you get. And you're done. Do the final spin. We have our adorable bow and our cute bun. This would be a great dance style, too. Something to mix up all those ballet buns. Now, if you guys missed it this last week, we actually put two videos. We put up the woven faux hawk on Sunday, and we put up the messy bun hawk on Wednesday. Try saying that five times fast. Woven faux hawk, messy bun hawk. La, la, la, la, la. Be sure to check them out, because they're both awesome. You can find the links to both of them in the description box below. Be sure to give us a thumbs up if you love our tutorials, and leave a comment below telling us what your favorite summer plan is. And we'll see you guys next Sunday. Bye you guys.
